Kalshi vs sportsbooks in Florida
Why Kalshi is legal in Florida when sportsbooks are not
Florida sports betting exists only inside the Seminole Tribe's compact — Hard Rock Bet is the sole legal sportsbook, and commercial operators like DraftKings and FanDuel are locked out. Kalshi is open to Floridians through the federal lane instead: as a CFTC-regulated derivatives exchange it lists event contracts on sports and everything else, with no dependence on the tribal compact that defines the state's sportsbook market.

What the fees look like
Kalshi's published taker fee competes directly with the single-operator pricing Floridians get from a monopoly sportsbook. With no competing books to shop lines against in Florida, an exchange where prices are set by two-sided order flow — and fees are itemized per trade — is often the sharper market.
| Venue | Fee per contract | Total taker fee |
|---|---|---|
| Kalshi | 1.75¢ | $1.75 |
| Polymarket US | 1.50¢ | $1.50 |
Exchange-side taker fees per each venue's published formula (rate × contracts × price × (1 − price), Kalshi rounds the order total up to the next cent). Fees peak at 50¢ and shrink toward the extremes. Most quoted cross-venue “arbs” are negative-EV after these fees — the taker-fee breakeven on a Kalshi/Polymarket pair is roughly 3.5–4¢.
